One of humanity's defining attributes is make things better. The better may actually be worse in some cases but the impulse to make things better is a driving factor for most human action. So what is better? what is actually an improvement ? The invention of the wheel allowed humanity to move things and humans further and with less effort. The wheels led to the bicycle which led to cars and motorcycles. If the bicycle is an improvement over walking then it means that improvement happens when we can accomplish the same task with less effort.

In the visual world , we evolved from drawing crude stick figures to drawing realistically to the invention of photography to film to Photoshop and 3d rendering . Each step in this journey brings us closer to being able to recreate reality without the limitations of reality. Magritte's figures and stones floated effortlessly without gravity and Picasso was able to view scenes from multiple points of view. We want to recreate reality the way we want it. Art stems from this fundamental drive in humanity. The need to recreate reality. I am just trying to avoid having to write about myself and hope I distracted you from the topic successfully. : )
