I am an art historian, art admirer…. and a self-taught pastel painter. I love exploring the qualities of this fine medium. As someone who used to find pastel paintings somewhat pale and insipid (with a few exceptions perhaps, like Jean-Baptiste-Simeon Chardin’s masterful still lifes), I am amazed while discovering for myself how varied and vibrant they can be. Animals are my favourite subject. They provide an abundance of colours and textures – perfect for exercising one’s artistic skills.
