The tree, a timeless symbol of life, growth, and resilience, stands in stark contrast to the ephemeral presence of the people. The morning fog adds a layer of mystery and softness, blurring the boundaries between the natural world and human activity. It can symbolize the transient moments of daily life, where individuals are en route to their destinations, perhaps lost in thought or conversation, unaware of the beauty that surrounds them. The fog acts as a veil, enhancing the sense of introspection and solitude, as if time itself has slowed down in this quiet morning moment.
People waiting at a bus stop can represent a pause in their hectic lives, a moment of stillness amidst the motion of urban existence. This juxtaposition of the organic form of the tree—rooted, steadfast—with the fleeting nature of human life highlights the relationship between the two. It may suggest a commentary on our connection to nature, the way we often overlook the environment that coexists with our daily routines.
The visual contrasts of dark against light, the solid form of the tree against the blurred figures of the waiting people, may further emphasize the multiplicity of experiences and perspectives. The tree stands as a witness to countless stories: each passenger has their own narrative, dreams, and hopes, while the tree remains an eternal observer, silently bearing witness to the passage of time.
Related themes
I am interested in different categories of abstraction, as well as people and nature — my favorite themes. In my earlier work, I used film cameras, but now I prefer digital ones. Recently, I choose digital cameras for their high image detail.
I enjoy showing the extraordinary in the ordinary. Light and shadow create an amazingly elegant, ephemeral beauty in the surrounding world and a subtle simplicity in the image.
In most of my photographs, I shoot documentarily, but the only change in this process occurs when I work on the computer to make the final edits for printing. It is here that I allow myself greater freedom in how the photograph will ultimately look. I enjoy photographing in series.
