FROM TREE TRUNK TO SCULPTURE.....
First the sculpture is created in the mind, then as a rough sketch on paper.
The sculptures are usually carved from linden wood using various chainsaws, but oak, Douglas fir, pine and poplar are also sawn into.
Movable earrings and intertwined ringlets are a particular challenge. After sawing, the sculpture is worked on with a grinder and burned. The painting gives them personality - all sculptures have names and stories to go with them - my brother Jochen Maier writes these on their wooden bodies.
Provided with UV varnish, the sculptures become bird-deterring objects outdoors.
