The empyrean is a term that comes from Greek mythology and which designates the highest of the heavens, the place where the gods reside. In medieval cosmology, the empyrean is often associated with paradise, the supreme place of bliss where the souls of the righteous and the elect are believed to go after their death. It is a concept that was widely used in medieval literature and philosophy, that of Dante Alighieri to describe the divine and eternal realm.
