Carved out of Rutland Vermont marble, the flowing forms suggest a sensuous nature. . Marble carving is a meditative process, bringing focus because one wrong move changes everything. I learned to carve in the marble workshops of Pietrasanta Italy.
This sculpture is meant to be outdoors - in a garden, outside a library, by a walk way, on the lawn or other appropriate space.

Melanie Zibit is a contemporary award-winning American sculptor. She draws inspiration from the beauty of organic shapes, like the imposing forms of rocks in forests or on the seashore, the seductive shapes of the human body, and the intriguing curves present in succulent vegetables.

The artist exhibits in museums and galleries and her pieces are in private collections throughout New England, Georgia, New York, and Oregon. For its centennial, the Centennial Middleborough Library commissioned her to create "Tree of Knowledge." The marble sculpture, which stands 7 feet tall outside, shows literature, the arts, and knowledge growing forth and upward. Melanie Zibit is a member of the New England Sculptors’ Association board.
