The painting "Silence at the Foot of the Mountains" captures the tranquil beauty of a coastal landscape where land and sea meet in quiet harmony. The artist masterfully conveys the vastness of nature, using bold brushstrokes and a rich palette to depict the rugged shoreline, rolling hills, and the gentle waves of the sea. The composition is both dynamic and peaceful, inviting the viewer to step into this serene world and experience the untouched beauty of the natural surroundings. The foreground is dominated by the rocky shoreline, painted with earthy tones of ochre, sienna, and deep browns. The rough, uneven surface of the terrain contrasts with the smooth, reflective quality of the water, adding texture and depth to the scene. Patches of wet sand glisten under the soft light, while scattered stones and seaweed hint at the slow, ceaseless motion of the tides. The artist’s use of thick, impasto brushstrokes brings the land to life, making the viewer almost feel the cool, damp earth beneath their feet. The water is a mesmerizing blend of blues and greens, reflecting the sky’s subtle shifts in color. Gentle waves lap at the shore, their movement delicately captured through fluid, sweeping brushstrokes. Darker tones near the shoreline suggest depth and mystery, while lighter hues further out to sea hint at the vast openness beyond. The presence of small rocks protruding from the water adds a sense of realism, reminding us of the ever-changing relationship between land and sea. The middle ground features a lush, green hillside rising from the coastline. The vibrant foliage contrasts beautifully with the earthy tones of the cliffs, creating a striking visual balance. The artist uses a variety of greens, from deep emerald to bright yellow-green, to capture the richness of the vegetation. The cliffs, bathed in warm golden light, suggest the presence of the sun even if it remains unseen. The play of light and shadow across the rocky formations adds depth and dimension, enhancing the sense of scale and grandeur. Perhaps a chapel, a lighthouse, or an old watchtower, its presence adds a narrative element to the painting. It evokes a sense of history and solitude, reminding us of the deep connection between humanity and nature. The structure appears almost timeless, blending seamlessly into its surroundings while also standing as a quiet testament to those who have lived and walked these lands before.

Yuriy Suprunchuk is a Ukrainian painter, born on April 11, 1961, in Zhytomyr, Ukraine. He received his formal art education at the Zheleznogorsk Art School (Russia), graduating in 1982, where he studied under V. Chukuev and E. Nikulin. In 2002, he became a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
His artistic journey began in early childhood, when a moment of watching his mother paint sparked a deep fascination with art. Suprunchuk recalls how, as a small child, he once stayed up all night painting after being inspired by the scene of his mother working on a composition.
He later studied at the Kharkiv State Pedagogical Institute, where he not only refined his technical skills but also acquired deep theoretical knowledge and art teaching methodology. Under the mentorship of distinguished professors, he developed a strong foundation in both classical and contemporary Ukrainian art traditions. As a student and later as an educator himself, he placed a high emphasis on nurturing the individual talent and expression of his pupils.
Yurii Suprunchuk’s creative style blends realism with elements of romanticism and fantasy, often inspired by Ukrainian folklore, landscapes, and national cultural identity. His compositions are notable for their philosophical undercurrents and metaphysical dimensions. In his works, one can often find abstracted objects, symbolic figures, and stylized interpretations of natural forms.
His paintings are characterized by rhythmic compositions, balanced use of light, and expressive color schemes. He often explores existential themes and the metaphysical presence of the human spirit.
Suprunchuk’s creative approach is introspective and emotional, yet rooted in structured form. His works frequently portray female figures, domestic still lifes, Ukrainian village landscapes, and cultural archetypes. The recurrence of motifs like trees, fish, vessels, and abstract elements imbues his paintings with layered meaning, often inviting the viewer to contemplate deeper symbolic narratives.
In addition to his artistic practice, Yurii Suprunchuk has taught for many years, inspiring a new generation of artists in Zhytomyr. His students and colleagues recognize him not only for his exceptional talent, but also for his philosophical depth and dedication to the craft.
Today, his works are held in private collections and exhibitions, continuing to speak through color, form, and inner vision — a testament to the enduring power of Ukrainian painting.
