The painting "Village Pond" offers a serene and picturesque glimpse into the calm beauty of rural life. Rendered in oil on cardboard, the composition captures the essence of a peaceful countryside, where a small pond nestles between rolling hills and tall trees, framed by the simplicity and charm of a village in the distance. The artwork exudes a sense of tranquility and connection to nature, evoking nostalgia for slower, simpler times. In the foreground, the gentle brushstrokes portray a lush grassy meadow interspersed with small plants and patches of soft earth tones. A meandering path leads the viewer’s eye toward the pond, inviting them to explore the quiet beauty of the scene. The grassy area is rendered with a palette of greens, browns, and hints of yellow, creating a natural harmony that captures the essence of the countryside. The focal point of the painting is the pond, situated in the middle ground. Its surface reflects the surrounding landscape with a calm, mirror-like quality. Soft blues and greens dominate the water, interspersed with subtle reflections of the tall trees standing nearby. These trees, painted with rich, earthy tones and expressive brushstrokes, rise tall and provide structure and depth to the composition. Their foliage is slightly abstract, blending seamlessly with the natural surroundings, suggesting the gentle movement of leaves in the breeze. The background showcases rolling hills painted in warm, golden hues, symbolizing the fertile and sunlit terrain of the village. Dotted across the hills are small red-roofed houses, their vibrant colors standing out against the muted tones of the earth. These distant structures create a sense of scale and perspective, emphasizing the openness and vastness of the landscape. The soft, hazy effect in the distance conveys a sense of depth and the passage of time.Above it all, the sky stretches expansively, painted in shades of blue with soft, drifting clouds. The light and airy quality of the sky contrasts with the earthy tones below, adding balance and a sense of freshness to the painting.Through "Village Pond," the artist conveys the quiet charm and timeless beauty of rural life. The pond serves as a central metaphor for calm and reflection, a natural oasis amidst the rolling hills and human activity of the village. The composition celebrates the harmony between people and nature, where life unfolds at a slower, more deliberate pace. This work invites the viewer to pause and immerse themselves in the simplicity of the countryside. It evokes feelings of nostalgia, peace, and gratitude for the natural world. The artist's use of warm tones, gentle textures, and balanced composition creates a sense of serenity, making this painting a tribute to the enduring beauty of rural landscapes and their tranquil allure.

Yuriy Suprunchuk is a Ukrainian painter, born on April 11, 1961, in Zhytomyr, Ukraine. He received his formal art education at the Zheleznogorsk Art School (Russia), graduating in 1982, where he studied under V. Chukuev and E. Nikulin. In 2002, he became a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
His artistic journey began in early childhood, when a moment of watching his mother paint sparked a deep fascination with art. Suprunchuk recalls how, as a small child, he once stayed up all night painting after being inspired by the scene of his mother working on a composition.
He later studied at the Kharkiv State Pedagogical Institute, where he not only refined his technical skills but also acquired deep theoretical knowledge and art teaching methodology. Under the mentorship of distinguished professors, he developed a strong foundation in both classical and contemporary Ukrainian art traditions. As a student and later as an educator himself, he placed a high emphasis on nurturing the individual talent and expression of his pupils.
Yurii Suprunchuk’s creative style blends realism with elements of romanticism and fantasy, often inspired by Ukrainian folklore, landscapes, and national cultural identity. His compositions are notable for their philosophical undercurrents and metaphysical dimensions. In his works, one can often find abstracted objects, symbolic figures, and stylized interpretations of natural forms.
His paintings are characterized by rhythmic compositions, balanced use of light, and expressive color schemes. He often explores existential themes and the metaphysical presence of the human spirit.
Suprunchuk’s creative approach is introspective and emotional, yet rooted in structured form. His works frequently portray female figures, domestic still lifes, Ukrainian village landscapes, and cultural archetypes. The recurrence of motifs like trees, fish, vessels, and abstract elements imbues his paintings with layered meaning, often inviting the viewer to contemplate deeper symbolic narratives.
In addition to his artistic practice, Yurii Suprunchuk has taught for many years, inspiring a new generation of artists in Zhytomyr. His students and colleagues recognize him not only for his exceptional talent, but also for his philosophical depth and dedication to the craft.
Today, his works are held in private collections and exhibitions, continuing to speak through color, form, and inner vision — a testament to the enduring power of Ukrainian painting.
