The oil painting on cardboard, titled "City Boats by the Sea", captures the picturesque charm of a coastal town where history and the sea seamlessly merge. The artist uses a warm and earthy palette, blending golden hues with deep blues to create a scene that feels both tranquil and full of life. The composition is divided between the rugged architecture of an old city and the inviting waters of the sea, with small boats resting on the shore, waiting to be taken out into the waves. The buildings, rendered in warm ochres and browns, stand tall along the water’s edge, their facades aged by time and the salty air. The most striking element is a bell tower, rising above the rest of the structures, bathed in sunlight. It suggests a historic church or town hall, adding a sense of cultural heritage to the painting. The artist’s use of loose yet deliberate brushstrokes gives the walls a textured, weathered appearance, making the town feel alive with history. In the foreground, a collection of small wooden boats is scattered along the rocky shore. Their curved forms and vibrant accents of yellow, red, and green contrast with the rough stone and sand beneath them. These boats symbolize a way of life centered around the sea—perhaps belonging to fishermen who rely on the waters for their livelihood or locals who use them for travel and leisure. Their positioning, some slightly tilted and others facing the water, suggests recent activity, as if they have just been returned from a journey. The sea itself is a deep, inviting blue, with gentle waves lapping against the shore. The reflections of the sky and the town shimmer on the water’s surface, adding depth and movement. In the distance, hazy blue mountains rise, their peaks softened by atmospheric perspective, reinforcing the sense of a serene yet vibrant coastal landscape.Through "City Boats by the Sea", the artist conveys a sense of timelessness and connection between people and nature. The painting evokes a feeling of nostalgia, inviting the viewer to imagine the daily lives of those who reside in this seaside town. Whether it is the fishermen preparing for the next journey or the quiet hum of city life echoing from the buildings, the painting captures a moment of stillness, warmth, and beauty where land and sea exist in perfect harmony.

Yuriy Suprunchuk is a Ukrainian painter, born on April 11, 1961, in Zhytomyr, Ukraine. He received his formal art education at the Zheleznogorsk Art School (Russia), graduating in 1982, where he studied under V. Chukuev and E. Nikulin. In 2002, he became a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
His artistic journey began in early childhood, when a moment of watching his mother paint sparked a deep fascination with art. Suprunchuk recalls how, as a small child, he once stayed up all night painting after being inspired by the scene of his mother working on a composition.
He later studied at the Kharkiv State Pedagogical Institute, where he not only refined his technical skills but also acquired deep theoretical knowledge and art teaching methodology. Under the mentorship of distinguished professors, he developed a strong foundation in both classical and contemporary Ukrainian art traditions. As a student and later as an educator himself, he placed a high emphasis on nurturing the individual talent and expression of his pupils.
Yurii Suprunchuk’s creative style blends realism with elements of romanticism and fantasy, often inspired by Ukrainian folklore, landscapes, and national cultural identity. His compositions are notable for their philosophical undercurrents and metaphysical dimensions. In his works, one can often find abstracted objects, symbolic figures, and stylized interpretations of natural forms.
His paintings are characterized by rhythmic compositions, balanced use of light, and expressive color schemes. He often explores existential themes and the metaphysical presence of the human spirit.
Suprunchuk’s creative approach is introspective and emotional, yet rooted in structured form. His works frequently portray female figures, domestic still lifes, Ukrainian village landscapes, and cultural archetypes. The recurrence of motifs like trees, fish, vessels, and abstract elements imbues his paintings with layered meaning, often inviting the viewer to contemplate deeper symbolic narratives.
In addition to his artistic practice, Yurii Suprunchuk has taught for many years, inspiring a new generation of artists in Zhytomyr. His students and colleagues recognize him not only for his exceptional talent, but also for his philosophical depth and dedication to the craft.
Today, his works are held in private collections and exhibitions, continuing to speak through color, form, and inner vision — a testament to the enduring power of Ukrainian painting.
