The painting "Romantic Sailing" presents a tranquil and enchanting harbor scene at twilight, where the fading light of the day meets the quiet rhythm of the water. Executed in oil on cardboard, the artwork immerses the viewer in a dreamy coastal setting that evokes a sense of serenity and romance. The composition is dominated by a wide, reflective expanse of water, where boats and ships gently rest, their forms mirrored in the soft ripples of the harbor. On the left, the harbor is alive with moored vessels, ranging from small boats to larger ships, their masts adorned with flags that flutter in the evening breeze. The silhouetted forms of the boats contrast with the pastel hues of the sky, adding depth and drama to the composition. The warm lights from the harbor subtly glow against the cool blues and purples of the scene, suggesting the onset of nightfall. In the background, an elegant cityscape rises, featuring domed buildings, spires, and towers that speak of historical grandeur and architectural beauty. The skyline, painted in soft shades of blue, pink, and violet, fades into the atmospheric mist, enhancing the dreamlike quality of the painting. The artist’s choice of colors skillfully captures the magical transition between day and night, where the light softens and the world appears bathed in a quiet, romantic glow.On the right, a small sailboat gently drifts toward the open water, its delicate mast and sails adding a sense of movement and adventure. The water itself, painted with fluid strokes of pink, blue, and gold, reflects the sky’s changing hues, creating a harmonious interplay between the natural and man-made elements. The artist conveys a deep appreciation for the beauty of coastal life and the timeless allure of sailing. Through the soft, atmospheric palette and careful attention to detail, the painting invites the viewer to pause and reflect on the calm and romance of this fleeting moment. The scene captures the spirit of exploration and tranquility, offering a sense of escape from the demands of daily life."Romantic Sailing" is a celebration of the harmony between human ingenuity and nature’s grandeur. The artist conveys a message of peace, connection, and the infinite possibilities that come with the open sea. This work resonates with those who find solace and inspiration in the quiet beauty of twilight and the timeless appeal of sailing into the unknown.

Yuriy Suprunchuk is a Ukrainian painter, born on April 11, 1961, in Zhytomyr, Ukraine. He received his formal art education at the Zheleznogorsk Art School (Russia), graduating in 1982, where he studied under V. Chukuev and E. Nikulin. In 2002, he became a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
His artistic journey began in early childhood, when a moment of watching his mother paint sparked a deep fascination with art. Suprunchuk recalls how, as a small child, he once stayed up all night painting after being inspired by the scene of his mother working on a composition.
He later studied at the Kharkiv State Pedagogical Institute, where he not only refined his technical skills but also acquired deep theoretical knowledge and art teaching methodology. Under the mentorship of distinguished professors, he developed a strong foundation in both classical and contemporary Ukrainian art traditions. As a student and later as an educator himself, he placed a high emphasis on nurturing the individual talent and expression of his pupils.
Yurii Suprunchuk’s creative style blends realism with elements of romanticism and fantasy, often inspired by Ukrainian folklore, landscapes, and national cultural identity. His compositions are notable for their philosophical undercurrents and metaphysical dimensions. In his works, one can often find abstracted objects, symbolic figures, and stylized interpretations of natural forms.
His paintings are characterized by rhythmic compositions, balanced use of light, and expressive color schemes. He often explores existential themes and the metaphysical presence of the human spirit.
Suprunchuk’s creative approach is introspective and emotional, yet rooted in structured form. His works frequently portray female figures, domestic still lifes, Ukrainian village landscapes, and cultural archetypes. The recurrence of motifs like trees, fish, vessels, and abstract elements imbues his paintings with layered meaning, often inviting the viewer to contemplate deeper symbolic narratives.
In addition to his artistic practice, Yurii Suprunchuk has taught for many years, inspiring a new generation of artists in Zhytomyr. His students and colleagues recognize him not only for his exceptional talent, but also for his philosophical depth and dedication to the craft.
Today, his works are held in private collections and exhibitions, continuing to speak through color, form, and inner vision — a testament to the enduring power of Ukrainian painting.
