Winter Echoes Hill is a Canadian artist currently living and working out of Phoenix, Arizona. She is a visual artist who works in oil painting as well as drawing with charcoal and graphite.
Echoes Hill was born in Southern Ontario and is a member of the Six Nations of the Grand River. She lived her early childhood on the reservation before moving to Western New York. She began her secondary education and art practice in New York, in her early twenties, until she moved to Phoenix to complete her undergraduate degree. She has resided in Phoenix since 2022.
Echoes Hill is a predominantly figurative artist although occasionally working in nature painting. She includes elements of surrealism and abstraction with some common subject matters being self-portraiture, the female nude, Indigenous mythos, and representing emotions through figures and color. Besides her practice as a visual artist, Echoes Hill has also worked as a teaching artist for youth.
Echoes Hill began her undergraduate degree at a community college in Western New York where she studied for one year, then transferred to Buffalo State University for two years. Here, she studied general arts, including some ceramics, before focusing on painting and drawing exclusively. Echoes Hill completed her last few semesters and graduated from Arizona State University with a BFA in painting and drawing.
Some interests in her personal life include reading, anatomy, dream theory and interpretations, nature, divinity, astronomy and art history. These aspects of her interest will frequently appear as elements within her artistic practice.
