Wil Lof, startte haar carrière als leerling-dessinatrice bij een grote Nederlandse textieldrukkerij. 

Gedurende twintig jaar werkte ze in de  industriële toegepaste kunst als vooraanstaand dessinatrice en colorist van modemotieven, die werden geproduceerd door verschillende textieldrukkerijen in Oost-Nederland en grensoverschrijdend in West-Duitsland. Haar ontwerpen vonden hun weg naar Europa, Afrika, het Midden-Oosten en Zuid-Amerika in de vorm van bedrukte stof voor kleding. Daarnaast vond ze tijd om te studeren aan de Academie voor Kunst en Industrie (AKI) en specialiseerde ze zich in grafische en textiele vormgeving.
Haar eerste schilderijententoonstellingen trokken veel aandacht en kreeg lovende kritieken van de regionale pers. Schilderen en tekenen blijft haar passie... van het midden van de jaren '80 tot '90 werkte ze als grafisch ontwerper voor de vele interactieve videotexdiensten en teletekstdiensten van die tijd in heel Europa. Vooral het beperkte aantal van slechts acht kleuren en de beperkte mozaïekafbeeldingen intrigeerden haar en resulteerden in zeer abstracte composities van slechts 5000 pixels.
In 1997 stapte ze over naar de andere kunst en besloot ze zich fulltime te wijden aan monumentale schilderkunst.
Veel waarnemers karakteriseren haar schilderijen als esoterisch, antroposofisch of zelfs 'Elysisch'. Naast haar serie puur abstracte en figuratieve schilderijen, ligt de nadruk nu op het combineren van beide stijlen tot mysterieuze taferelen.

Kenmerken van de kunstwerken van Wil Lof

Wil Lof's legt de nadruk op decoratieve, abstract gestileerde schilderijen met dynamische, krachtige kleuren, gerealiseerd in gemengde technieken. Met behulp van een speciale hechtingstechniek bedekt ze het doek met zorgvuldig geselecteerd lompenpapier, dat – tijdens het drogen – de neiging heeft te kreuken.

Het resulterende patroon wordt geobserveerd en indien mogelijk gebruikt om het te schilderen motief te accentueren. Voor de hoofdstroom van haar werk gebruikt ze acrylverf van topmerken, met een voorkeur voor sterke en intense pigmenten.

Wil brengt de verf in zeer dunne lagen aan, met behulp van haar handen, penselen, sponzen en paletmessen.

Het resultaat is een dynamisch schilderij waarvan de kleurbalans verandert onder het beschikbare licht, warm in het ochtendlicht; helder in de volle zon, warm en teder bij zonsondergang. Kunstlicht van variabele sterkte kan worden gebruikt om te markeren. De 'kleurgecodeerde' composities van haar werken voeren de toeschouwer mee in speculatieve of interpretatieve verbeeldingen van het schilderij.
