In this series of Wen-Chi's earliest major works, she took on the themes of solitude, despair and probing existentialism. Each of the works in this series present common roadside symbols, imposed on those simple locales that we all take for granted each day, which may symbolize the struggle between out inner fallibilities and frailness and the pressures placed upon us by the ‘outside’. Whether coping or not quite coping, we all find ourselves at the bathroom mirror facing that oddly familiar figure staring back at us, yet not quite knowing who they are and what they want from us or sometimes just wish there was a simple “DO NOT DISTURD” sign we could hang on the front door that would shield us for a time, giving us time, peace, retreat…
All of these canvas span 8’x4’ and have been exhibit en masse and separately around the country, while 2 have one awards on their own.
