Yuri Alexandrovich Shchabelsky, a contemporary Russian painter, discovered his passion for art at a young age, nurturing his talent through attendance at the art school named after Kostandi in Odessa from the 5th grade onwards. His dedication to painting led to participation in exhibitions and competitions during his school years, culminating in the prestigious grand prix he received in 1999 for his entry in the UNESCO-sponsored competition "Man and the Planet."
After completing his secondary education, Shchabelsky enrolled at the Odessa National Maritime Academy, where he embarked on several voyages around the world as a cadet on training ships. The maritime surroundings of Odessa, situated on the Black Sea, greatly influenced his artistic inclinations. Immersing himself in the works of renowned marine painter Aivazovsky at the Odessa Art Museum, Shchabelsky meticulously studied the master's technique, deciphering the intricacies of painting construction.
In 2011, Shchabelsky established his own school of seascape and landscape painting, named the "New Art Room," in Odessa. Here, he imparted his expertise to aspiring artists of all ages, including preparing students for admission to art universities in Ukraine and Russia, as well as assisting with graduation theses, even extending support to students from China. Concurrently, Shchabelsky pursued a second higher education, obtaining a pedagogical degree specializing in teaching painting from Ushinsky Pedagogical University in Odessa.
Throughout this period of academic and pedagogical pursuits, Shchabelsky continued to develop his artistic identity under the pseudonym "Water Man". He actively participated in exhibitions across the globe, including in Switzerland, the USA, Russia, and Ukraine. His artworks, characterized by their maritime themes, have garnered acclaim and are sought after by collectors worldwide, with sales extending to countries such as the USA, Argentina, China, and Europe.
