Born on February 21, 1958 in Lagny-sur-Marne, Jean-PI ESTELA joined the "Estienne" graphic arts school (Paris 13th) after completing his baccalaureate. He graduated four years later, in 1978, and began his career in advertising, at a time when pencils, markers, brushes and tubes of paint were essential tools for graphic creation. He therefore began in 1981 as a draftsman. -designer in an advertising studio then established himself as an independent illustrator in 1986. A year later, he co-founded the "Cockpit et Carlingue" studio in which he held the positions of artistic director and creative director. In particular, he collaborated on major projects such as the poster for the bicentenary of the Revolution, and in advertising work for individuals such as Epson, Yves Rocher, Schweppes or Dutch Van Holden cigars. It was in the early 2000s that Jean-Pierre leaves the world of advertising as well as Paris and settles in the Tarn-et-Garonne as an illustrator and independent painter.
His works are then very diverse in subject and style; they represent memories of travels as well as portraits or nudes. After having been a framer between 2006 and 2010, his painting took a new turn. She suffered the main influences of JP, the impressionists Van Gogh and Monet, and took advantage of her experience in advertising for the layout. Her paintings then became abstract and acquired an innovative style thanks to techniques that JP had not used. hitherto in painting: ink, felt, airbrush in addition to oils. He now works thanks to slides that he "mistreats" before projection as well as techniques that give an aspect and a texture that he had not encountered in his previous works. His style becomes dreamlike, even phantasmagorical, sensitive and timeless.
