Walter Togni was born in Vignanello on August 11, 1954. During this time, he was vice president of the IUNA association (Associated Artists of Vignanello and Surrounding Towns). At a very young age, he began his career in figurative art with group exhibitions organized by local authorities and at the British Academy in Viterbo, organized by Professor Togni. P. Ammannato (a well-known artist known throughout the country not only for his art but also for his great humanity. The domestic environment where one "breathed more art than air", influenced the destiny of W. Togni, who as a teenager chose to enroll at the State Art Institute of Civita Castellana. In the seventies he obtained the diploma of art teacher and the maturity in applied art by passing the exams, with considerable success, at the Art Institute in via Silvio D'Amico in Rome. In the following years, he participated in numerous local exhibitions in the capital, participated in "VITERBO PARLA" organized by ENAL and in national and international group exhibitions, receiving praiseworthy commendations. His fundamental commitment is in the ceramic industry, where he creates models and decorations. Some works are placed in institutional venues. In 2004 he created a bronze work placed at the G. Falcone and P. Borsellino Comprehensive Institute, commemorating The inauguration of the heroic magistrates. In 2007, he created a bronze statue, in recognition of the IUNA's recognition of the municipal administration of Vignanello. W.T.'s works have soft, meditative tones. From the search for inner tranquility; but there is also the violence of protest. The destruction of the assembly line, whose gears ravenously eat away at the freedom of the individual. His works, too, are a reinterpretation on canvas of Chaplin's "Modern Times."
(Riccardo Mattei)
"Art is passion." It's something playful. It cannot be a market. Many artists, out of necessity or the many vicissitudes that life throws at them, are forced into compromises that have nothing to do with art. In this way, they alienate their talent and their very existence.
This experience (that of making art exclusively as a reason for living) has been and always will be the source of so much spiritual torment.
This ongoing search, I believe, leaves an indelible mark on each person's personality. It fills them with that existential restlessness typical of artists, which is precisely the driving force and what gives the artwork its greatest expressive power.
This is why art cannot be a learned craft, but rather an inner strength that is unleashed at birth, shaped by evolution, and follows a preordained path. (W.T.)
