Vytautas Žirgulis is a contemporary Lithuanian artist based in Vilnius, Lithuania, where he creates both easel and wall paintings. His work has been showcased in numerous exhibitions and plein airs in Lithuania and abroad. In addition to his artistic practice, Žirgulis teaches drawing, painting, and composition at the National M. K. Čiurlionis School of Art.
Žirgulis describes his painting style as magical realism, drawing inspiration from everyday life and imbuing ordinary objects and events with new meaning. His works are rooted in real images, people, and events, which serve as the foundation for his artistic ideas and narrative-driven compositions. Literary influences also play a role in his creative process, guiding his approach to composition, color choices, and lighting.
He has a strong appreciation for oil painting, valuing its depth, saturation, and the flexibility it offers. The slow drying time of the medium allows him to achieve subtle nuances, soft contours, and intricate details in his works, giving form to objects, lighting, and glazes.
