This painting, executed in oil, presents a serene winter scene within a city - small alley under the trees. The artist used impressionist techniques to capture the interplay of light and shadow.
The scene is dominated by tall, dark trees, their trunks and branches starkly contrasted against the white snow. The textured strokes are made with a palette knife to add depth and liveliness to the composition. The subtle blue and gray tones of the snow are interspersed with some yellow coming from lanterns. Also, the dry larch needles create a sort of yellow-brown cloud above the path.
The snow-laden branches and the uneven, textured snow convey the cold, crisp atmosphere of a winter's night.
A path cleaned of snow leads the viewer's eye forward to the end of the alley, evoking a sense of a new way mixed with a shadow of a sadness of parting.
The painting can be hung on the wall without a frame, the image is continued on the ends.
Real colours can differ slightly due to the variety in individual screen settings.

Vladimir Lebedev, born in 1968, is an engineer with a passion for painting.
As an artist, he works with oils as well as pastels, acrylics, watercolours and other media and expresses himself in both Impressionism and Realism. In his works he strives to show the dynamics of light and shadow, unexpected angles of view and intriguing subjects, conveying emotion with vivid colours and textured strokes. Using a variety of tools, Vladimir explores different techniques to realise his vision of life.
He has been fond of drawing for as long as he can remember - as a child, in his school years and during his university studies. Then, being a specialist in nuclear power engineering, Vladimir drew and painted pictures, mostly for his own pleasure, apart from work.
From 2013 to 2023, he lived and worked in France, and this gave him a powerful additional impulse to pursue art.
The inspiration for his work at that time was travelling around the world, and especially France. From breathtaking landscapes to bright city sights and captivating architecture, the beauty of France's nature and cities had a profound influence on his work. He endeavours to share these impressions of the places he has visited, inviting viewers to see them through his eyes and feel the same emotions, experience the same delight and wonder that he got from these beautiful views. Often, he found himself in places where great artists painted and took the opportunity to depict these places too. Vladimir hopes that his paintings will serve as a bridge to take viewers to the places where his inspiration came to him.
Within the last three years he has created more than fifty works in various techniques. Some of his works are in private collections in Canada, USA, Japan and France. After returning to Russia, he lives in Sergiev Posad and continues to paint. He participates in art events such as open online exhibitions and presents his works in online galleries.
Vladimir's journey as an artist is a testament to observation, practice and love of art.
