Virginie Banas is a painter and photographer whose work transports the viewer into a unique sensory and visual experience. Her creations, which combine collage and painting, highlight thickness and material. After starting out with watercolor and pastel, her brushes and knives have been moving towards oil and acrylic for several years, allowing her to sculpt the material with a distinctive touch.
Knife work, which naturally came into her practice, allows her to give her paintings a palpable, almost sculptural texture, inviting us to touch. Passionate about pigments, colors and textures, Virginie constantly experiments with mixed techniques, integrating materials such as iron, wood, cardboard, or even sand, which she sometimes brings back from her travels.
Each painting tells a story, situated between abstraction and figuration, capturing a dreamlike or spiritual moment. For Virginie Banas, each work is one more step on an artistic path that continues to evolve, always leading to new creative discoveries.
