About Vinko Hlebš’s painting by custodian of Tržič museum Janita Košir:”His paintings are truly unique. Initially, they were consistently realistic, but he soon exceeded his paintings by adding a symbolic message to his optically recorded images from nature. Meadow plants or cultivated plants, flowers, fruits or their details, lichen and moss, various insects and other elements of the microcosm were often depicted in supernatural dimensions or re-dimensioned enlargements with contextual components. The common theme is that they are stylised to imaginary forms, as if they were taken from their natural environment, captured in the moment, and arranged on dark green or dark blue backgrounds, characteristic for Vinko Hlebš. They act as floral bodies, no longer ordinary – as it might seem at first glance – but images morphing into surrealistically enriched scenes with clear and pure shapes. Such features were characterised by art critics as fantastic realism.”
