Vinayak Borkar, born in 1983 in Bhandara, Maharashtra, India, is a contemporary Indian artist known for his minimalist art. His interest in painting and sculpture began in childhood, and his artistic journey officially started in 2007. He received formal education in art, earning an Art Teacher Diploma (ATD) from Sharad Pawar Chitrakala Mahavidyalaya, Nagpur, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from Sir J.J. Institute of Applied Art, Mumbai. From 2014 to 2020, Borkar worked in the exhibition design industry for seven years.
Borkar's artistic repertoire includes a wide range of subjects, from still life and figurative works to landscapes, portraiture, and abstract pieces. However, he eventually gravitated toward minimalist art, an abstraction form that emphasizes simplicity, clean lines, and a monochromatic palette. His work often incorporates both geometric and non-geometric forms, aiming to evoke feelings of happiness, beauty, relaxation, and sustainability.
In Borkar's minimalist approach, elements like geometry, line, and color are central, striving to capture the essence and true purpose of things. His paintings, characterized by simple forms and clean lines, promote introspection and encourage viewers to engage in a dialogue with the art. Each element in his work—whether a line, block of color, or form—invites personal interpretation and meaning.
Borkar believes that minimalist art offers peace of mind, bringing positive changes such as reduced stress, less clutter, and increased creativity. He views each piece as a way to enhance the tranquility and aesthetic appeal of any space, embodying the philosophy that "less is more."
