Oil on canvas depicting a galante scene in a grove in front of an antique monument. In the centre, a man and a woman are seated, the first having an enterprising look. To his left, hidden behind the trees, two other gallants wait and listen to the conversation. A little further in the grass, the servants take inspiration from their masters. Anonymous work of the late seventeenth century (judging by the costumes), later restored (rentoilage, some repaints around and on the face of the male character in the center). Network of cracks but excellent condition for the time. Work authentified by French customs expert during the last time in the sales room of the work. Provenance: sales room of the Pas de Calais in 1979, remained in a family in the north of France until then. Certificate of authenticity sold with the work. Presented in its period carved wooden frame with keys has fretworked motifs.
