Mélissa is a contemporary artist born in 1985 in Grasse, France, to painter parents. She discovered her passion for drawing and painting at a very young age. After completing a degree in Plastic Arts in Toulouse, she felt a strong desire to learn new techniques, which prompted her to embark on a journey of exploration.

Her travels included a four-month internship at the Atelier Antonin Artaud in Tenerife, where she learned engraving, followed by a glassblowing experience in La Marsa, Tunisia. She also traveled to Mali, where she learned the traditional technique of dyeing “bogolan” fabrics. In 2007, Mélissa enrolled at the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Nîmes, where she had the opportunity to participate in a two-month residency at the Luxun School in China, completing her DNSEP in 2010.

Currently based in the Paris region, she continues to work and teach engraving, painting, and drawing in her studio. Having practiced painting for several years, she is now pursuing parallel research in printmaking—a rich technique that continually evolves. Through printmaking, Mélissa develops the graphic and narrative qualities of her work, creating a teeming and meticulous world that unfolds on paper, leaving traces of stories that are both strange and humorous.

Her graphic research focuses on the sensitive relationships between humans and animals, reflecting her fascination with the incredible diversity of life and the myriad forms it encompasses. In her drawings, she aims to suggest rather than define the peculiar nature of the bodies represented, maintaining a sense of spontaneity in her graphic expression. Myth and fable serve as a living language that helps her interrogate the present.

Mélissa's artistic creations are born from mental constructions and poetic architectures that emerge from the fertile ground of myths and tales, where ancient stories resonate with contemporary images. Her dreamlike imagery, crafted with delicate pen strokes, speaks to a desire to find one's place, habitat, and lair—an ongoing obsession reflected in her work.
