Guaş boya tekniğinin kökeni nedir?

Guaj (İtalyan guazzo'dan), bir bağlayıcı (gliserin) veya zamklı su bazlı bir çözücü (arap zamkı) kullanan bir maddedir. Örtücü ve opak (suluboyadan farklı olarak), kolay karışır ve su ile inceltilir (tempera boya). Sanatçılar tarafından yaygın olarak kullanılan guaj terimi, hem bir tüpte bulunan malzemeyi hem de tuval üzerinde gözlemlenen sonucu ifade eder. Renklendirici maddeler su ile inceltilerek sakız ve bal ilave edilerek macunsu ve opak hale getirilir. Renkler opak hale gelir ve bu nedenle üst üste gelebilir, böylece hem guaj hem de yağlı boya ile boyarız. Guaj parlak, taze ve narin tonları için tavsiye edilir. Başta Fransız Paul Gauguin olmak üzere bazı ünlü sanatçılar bu tekniğin kullanımında başarılı oldular.
