Maurice Kummers schilderijen kenmerken zich door gewaagde thema’s, een verzorgde grafische stijl en uitdagend kleurgebruik. Voor de uitwerking en thematiek van zijn schilderijen laat hij zich inspireren door zijn modellen en hun leefwereld. Veel werk is daarom een liefdevol portret van iemands ziel, of tenminste een deel daarvan. Hij laat daarmee sterke, zelfbewuste vrouwen zien in een wankele tijd. Hoewel sommige werken doen denken aan zeefdruk, is ieder werk met de hand geschilderd in vele dunne laagjes en met oog voor detail.
