Guy Blackburn est né au Québec en 1956,. Sa pratique, initiée au début des années 80, l’a amené à participer à de nombreuses expositions et manifestations d’art actuel au Québec, au Canada et à l’étranger (France, Allemagne, Pologne, Chili, Cuba). Depuis 1990, l’artiste pluridisciplinaire a proposé un ensemble d’œuvres qui a su intéresser un large public, entretenir une médiatisation soutenue et bénéficier d’une analyse importante. Pensons seulement aux projets La Cécité, Hommage à Anna, Espace interdit, Quémander l’affection et à la série de quatre installations au Musée de la guerre froide de Carps, en Ontario. Il a également présenté Sans Silence et Extrait d’ambiguïté au Musée de Rimouski, à la Galerie Séquence de Chicoutimi ainsi qu’à la Biennale nationale de sculpture contemporaine de Trois-Rivières. Sa dernière aventure d’art Touche est une œuvre majeure produite et diffusée avec la complicité du Centre national de recherche et diffusion en arts contemporains numériques SAGAMIE, à Alma. Entre 1992 et 2015, une période couvrant 23 années, Blackburn a réalisé le corpus TOC regroupant 242 tableaux sous le thème de la collection obsessive. Ces œuvres acquises par l’Hôtel Chicoutimi y sont présentées en permanence sur les quatre étages de l’édifice. Bien que l’on puisse parler chez cet artiste de pratique ouverte, l’installation et la peinture demeurent au cœur de son travail.
