In the world of Erno Toth, dream and fantasy never become separated from reality, the possible from the impossible, the good from the bad, the tragic from the funny, the face from the mask, or the beautiful from the ugly. In his pictures many figures swarm in colourful crowds, usually in a cheerfully optimistic mood, but he always depicts the reverse as well as the fair side of things.
The world of Ernő Tóth is a very consciously structured world with laws rather unlike those that govern reality. His world was not created in six days, and it has not three but a multitude of dimensions - the three dimensions of space are as tight as a mousehole compared to the dimensions of feeling, thinking, jokes, dreams, and imagination in the artist’s world.
His inspiration comes from many places but is concentrated in opera, theater, carnivals, hunting, food, wine, and, ultimately from the great master Chagall. We have not found any artist that comes close to his style. His work tends to bring a smile to everyone’s lips and brightens a room as soon as it is hung.
Are his paintings beautiful? One might say that grotesque or ugly feet, noses, gnarled buttocks, crumpled light bulbs, vague spots are pulled together to create something unsettlingly or irresistibly beautiful. One might say also that beauty is not actually an aesthetic category. In fact, it does not even exist per se. What the term expresses is merely our relation to objects, landscapes, pictures, women, or flowers. A good picture is true, not beautiful. What makes it beautiful is that we love it.

Many of my works draw inspiration from my childhood, which I lived in the countryside.
Among them is this sculpture.
Every year, as children, we eagerly awaited the arrival of the traveling circus in our village. It was the event of the year for us. Being in a majestic circus tent, seeing exotic animals - lions, tigers, elephants, giraffes that we had only seen in pictures until then, or holding our breath at the acrobatic stunts of circus performers on the trapeze, break-neck rides on bicycles, horses - these were experiences that we they talked to each other for months.
As a humorous person, I also adored clowns. I was close to their comedy, irony, self-parody, endless fooling around.
I especially liked their comedic performances on bicycles, which certainly inspired me to create several humorous sculptures of sculptures associated with a bicycle (or rather a psudo bicycle).
I'm also a bit of a clown. I go crazy to the point of satiety when creating my sculptures and paintings, and I am glad that my work enriches people not only artistically, but also encourages them to experience life in a more humorous, light-hearted and relaxed way.

Ceremonial unveiling of the Steve Jobs's statue by Erno Toth in Hungary.
In December 2023, it will be 12 years since the installation of my most famous statue - the first life-size statue of Apple founder Steve Jobs in the world.
We unveiled the statue, almost 2 meters high and weighing 220 kilograms, on December 21, 2011 outside the headquarters of Hungarian software company Graphisoft in Budapest.
This work has been widely reported by the world's media, including the Daily Mail, the Wall Street Journal and many others.
I tried to capture him in his typical pose, turtleneck, jeans, sneakers and round glasses. And of course, with an iPhone in hand...I think that considering the short time I had to create the statue (only 2 months since Steve Jobs died in October 2011) my intention was quite successful.
