Artiste franco-canadien né en 1979, Thomas Paquet interroge la nature du temps, la structure de son fluxininterrompu et la dynamique de son mouvement. Depuis plusieurs années, dans un jeu de construction pour peindre une expérience sensible du monde, Thomas Paquet entreprend un travail d’étude photographique autour de ses caractéristiques fondamentales : la lumière, l’espace et le temps.
Son approche de la photographie est directe, pratique. L’expérimentation est souvent centrale dans ses recherches et pour chacun de ses projets, un dispositif précis est mis au point, qu’il soit optique, physique ou chimique. Si le film argentique est souvent au cœur de son processus de création, il a coutume d’utiliser des techniques alternatives telles que les films instantanés, les tirages au collodion humide, le cyanotype ou encore le tirage à la gomme bichromatée.
Les œuvres ainsi produites, entre préméditation et hasard, assument une dimension plastique qui travaille de l’intérieur les possibilités et les limites du document photographique. Elles sont une invitation à dépasser notre représentation de la réalité, brouillant les frontières entre science et poésie, matérialité et abstraction, objectivité et subjectivité.
