A Negombo entrepreneur and art lover is proving that there is more to western Sri Lanka’s top resort than beaches, beer and bars.
Nature Care Syndicate has opened the town’s first bespoke international art gallery at a prominent land-side location 300 yards north of Jetwing Beach hotel 200 South of Jetwing Sea Hotel.
The Gallery will be home to artist-in-residence Thushara Kumarasinghe, long-time friend and renowned painter whose distinctive works hang in galleries throughout the world, including London, Dublin and Washington.
Says Manjula: “I’ve long believed that Negombo needs a creative cultural dimension, something that will appeal to visitors and residents alike.
“The gallery will not only have a permanent display devoted to Thushara, but we will also encourage other Sri Lankan and international artists to hang their work here.”
The building includes a three-bedroomed apartment that can accommodate visiting artists, and spectacular roof terraces with panoramic views of the Negombo Beach and Indian Ocean.
While Thushara is already in residence and busy creating new works, Manjula is busy preparing for the official opening and promotional works.
