Taylan Akdag was born in Sivas, in 1980. After completing his primary and secondary education in Sivas, he graduated from Faculty of Fine Arts at University of Mersin. After that, he took his Masters degree, as private student, from Department of Drawing, Sculpture at University of Mersin.

Since the beginning of his education life at Fine Arts, Akdag’s interest in and love of Sociology has urged him to harmonize his expressions in his works with sociological subjects. Particularly, he pays special attention on city culture which shapes the lives of urban people. In this respect, he worked on the ‘Night Club Culture’ which was born in urban space and which is a praxis affecting the lives of ‘contemporary urban man and urban underclass woman’. Hence, the NIGHT CLUB, his latest personal exhibition, evolved out of his perception of gender and sexuality in the Night Club culture. He has also concerned himself on illustrations in plastic arts about the story of people who migrated from rural to urban spaces after mechanization in Turkish agriculture. Accordingly, he has expressed how those migrated people have kept their rural values, traditions and culture alive, and how they live together with them in urban spaces.

Akdag belives that art is a way of life that encourages the artist to be productive in all spheres of life. He is also a professional mountaineer who brings the art and the sport (the high altitude) together under the same roof. In this sense, he performed the İrtifai Eserler Projesi (Project of High Altitude Arts) at the top of Nigde Aladaglar Mountains in 2010. As being an artist in plastic arts, he does not limit himself to any field or realm. He uses any method, style or material which the subject wants him to make use of. Akdag believes that art is a journey through which the artist is growing mature and in which there are periods/ phases that the artist passes through and that reveals the inner world and the evolutionary steps of the artist to infinity.
