Française, vit et peint à Amiens. 

Initiée à la peinture par James D. Robertson, alors peintre et professeur honoraire à l'Ecole des Beaux-arts de Glasgow, Sylviane Dubois a travaillé dans l’atelier de Willie Rodger, membre de l’Académie royale de peinture d’Ecosse, puis a rejoint l’atelier de Bruno Lebel, Grand Prix de Rome et Professeur honoraire de l’Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Paris.

Deux écritures coexistent dans sa peinture. La première est une interprétation sensible, poétique, colorée et généreuse de fleurs, fruits et plantes qu’elle peint à l’huile ou à l’acrylique sur le motif ou en atelier. Willie Rodger y retrouvait l’esprit des fresques médiévales. Cette peinture doit aussi à Pompéi, à Herculanum ou à Oplontis. Parfois, l’écriture figurative réaliste se transforme en un camaïeu de gris sur des fonds dont la couleur éclate en vibrations. Plus doucement, ses marines sont lumineuses et sereines.

Une deuxième écriture émanant de l’inconscient caractérise la série ‘Couples’. Matières et couleurs, pigments purs s’écrasent sur la toile. La main suit à peine le rythme syncopé de la brosse ou du couteau. D’ intention il n’y a pas. Une pause suivie d’un mouvement plus lent que marque la craie, et le couple apparaît.

Force, sensibilité, joie de peindre, de jouer avec les transparences, avec la fluidité du médium et la résistance du lin.

In the studio of James D. Robertson MBE, former senior lecturer at the Glasgow School of Art, Sylviane Dubois experienced the intensity of colour and the vibrancy of paint unrelated to drawing or pattern. She has treasured that emotion. A subsequent encounter with Willie Rodger RSA RGI DUniv was the catalyst to her painting. In France, she joined the studio of Bruno Lebel, Grand Prix de Rome and Honorary Professor at the Beaux-Arts School in Paris.

Painting is sharing an experience, a range of emotions through colour and marks carefully distributed or lavishly thrown. Two visual vocabularies coexist. The first is a sensitive and poetic rendering of fruit, flowers and foliage painted in oil and acrylic from nature or in her studio. The subject matter and treatment may be reminiscent of mediaeval frescoes or of mural paintings at Pompei and Herculaneum. At times, her realistic painting turns to shades of grey that appease the vibrancy of powerful backgrounds. In a softer way, light suffuses her seascapes.

Her second visual vocabulary emerges from the unconscious. In the ‘Couples’ series, colour and matter are splashed onto the canvas. Her hand races with the syncopated rhythm of her brushes and palette knives as they discharge acrylic and pure pigments. No intention, no will. She pauses. A longer and slower gesture punctuated with a stick of chalk suddenly generates ‘the couple’.

Strength, sensitivity, a poetic vision, her inner joy, the pleasure of playing with the transparency and the fluidity of the medium, the solidity of the beautiful linen canvas, all combine in her artwork.
