The exhibition “Ecuador – Rays of Light” opens the viewer to a world filled not only with the colors of a new country, but also with a personal understanding of light as a symbol of change and inspiration. Almost a year ago I left Russia and began a new stage of my life in Ecuador.Ecuador, a country of striking contrasts, where the Andes meet the ocean and lush tropical nature reveals itself under the bright sun, inspired me to create works imbued with light and warmth. In my paintings, light takes on a special meaning: it is not just a physical phenomenon, but a symbol of hope, energy and renewal.

The twelve paintings presented in the exhibition are ideas of light as a life force. This is not only a reflection of the unique nature of Ecuador, but also a dialogue between all creative people in the world and the perception of a new reality. Through art I convey to the viewer the feeling of harmony that I found in Ecuador, and these works become a bridge between two cultures, two stages of life.

Every time I pick up a brush, I feel the urge to transcend reality. After exploring various genres and techniques, I find myself returning to what has always been my source of inspiration — abstraction. Here in Ecuador, where nature is filled with striking contrasts and vibrant emotions, I’ve rediscovered the pull of this direction.

You may have seen some of my earlier abstract works on the website. These pieces reflect a journey of exploration and experimentation, capturing layered emotions and moods. But since my move to Ecuador, my painting has taken a new turn. I’ve immersed myself in new colors and forms, drawing inspiration from the landscapes, culture, and my own experiences.

For me, abstraction has always been more than just a random interplay of colors and shapes. It carries a certain energy, a play of light and shadow, a rhythm that evokes emotions. Each painting is an invitation for the viewer to dive into their own interpretations. The new collection, soon to be unveiled on the website, is the result of a deep, personal journey and the inspiration I’ve found in this remarkable country.

Ecuador has become a living canvas for me. From the dramatic cloudscapes over the mountains to the lush rainforests and vast oceans, I’ve created a series of works that capture the movement of nature and the energy of the world around me. These paintings hold fleeting moments — brief yet saturated with color and form.

Why am I returning to abstraction now? Perhaps because abstraction offers freedom. It allows one to break free from the constraints of reality, to give full rein to imagination and emotion. In my new paintings, you can feel this liberation — they live their own lives, interacting with each viewer uniquely, evoking personal associations.

Svetlana Sokolova is an artist whose work is filled with light, emotion, and deep symbolism. Born and raised as a creative individual in Russia, she later found inspiration in the tropical beauty of Ecuador, where she currently lives and works. En février 2024, j'ai quitté la Russie pour l'Équateur. Cette décision n’est pas venue immédiatement, mais est le résultat de beaucoup de réflexion et d’inquiétude ! Maintenant, je vis dans la belle ville de Cuenca et une nouvelle étape dans ma créativité commence. J'ai déjà créé dix œuvres en Équateur et j'ai beaucoup d'idées. L’Équateur s’est avéré être un pays très confortable avec des gens sympathiques. Je me suis déjà lié d'amitié avec des artistes locaux. Ils m'ont très bien reçu et m'aident de plusieurs manières. On a même pensé à organiser une exposition commune à l'approche de Noël. Je suis très heureuse des changements dans ma vie et j’ai l’impression que des ailes poussent derrière moi !

Bonjour mes amis et collègues! Sur la base de la situation actuelle dans le monde, je voudrais dire quelques mots. J'ai toujours détesté l'agressivité dans n'importe laquelle de ses manifestations ! Cela vous empêche de vivre et de faire sereinement ce que vous aimez : la peinture ! En ce moment, un tas de politiciens de différents pays tentent de plonger notre monde dans un sombre enchevêtrement d'agression et de haine ! Je veux appeler tous les créatifs de la planète à ne pas succomber à l'assaut des forces obscures et à continuer d'offrir aux gens un début brillant, en utilisant tout leur potentiel créatif pour cela !
