Steve Roberts
For me, being an artist encompasses not only the creative self but the cultural and spiritual self as well. It is important to try and capture a specific emotion or particular mood in my work, and the beauty and versatility of the human form is a perfect subject. I give special attention to the sensuality of line, making careful observation to the design and manipulation when dealing with this in my art work. I enjoy working with oil and acrylic paints, but I also do illustration work in digital format. The primary reason, the much faster turn around.
I am comfortable working from live models, photographs, and from my own imagination.
I am especially intrigued by the styles and history of the Ancient Greek and Romans, and their Mythology. It is not just the esthetics that are important, however. I consider the intellectual mindset behind the work to be just as vital.
I have recently finished a series of works for "Rifts" which is a very popular Role Playing Game for Palladium Books. I believe, it is important to know that the art work can make or break a game. The artist must create characters that live and breathe, not just the traditional graphics that were normal in the "RPG's" of the '80's and '90's. I also specialize in many art styles as I create fantastical works for a number of companies including Sci-Fi and Fantasy book publishers . You can see some of these works in the Tyranny Games LLC, RPG "Sack Armies ".
I have also just completed two RPG jackets for Troll Lord Games "A Madness of Seasons", and "Winters Dark. More of my work can be seen in the popular, Honor and Treason series, "Of Death And Duty" by C.J. Merle, Published by "Speculation Press". Another recent book cover just completed is"Dragon Reborn", published by Dragon Moon Press.
