Stephen Conroy is a contemporary British artist. The artist's portfolio showcases a captivating blend of artistic techniques, including paper mosaics, paper cutouts, oil paintings, and acrylic paintings, all masterfully executed on canvas. His subject matter spans a wide spectrum, encompassing nudes, geometric abstracts, and still life paintings. In his most recent works, he explores new methods of paint application, employing rollers and palette knives to experiment with different textures and effects.
Throughout his body of work, certain key elements persist - vibrant colors, bold shapes, and strong compositions. His artistic inspiration derives from renowned artists such as Delaunay, Klee, Miro, Kandinsky, Abts, and Cezanne, among others. Shape, color, and geometry hold a special fascination for him, remaining at the heart of his artistic expression.
After leaving Wimbledon School of Art, where I studied sculpture and discovered my lack of ability in this subject, I went on to do a number of jobs including teaching art. After a couple of decades I decided that I wanted to be a full-time artist.
My work is created from the simplest of elements; rectangles, circles, triangles and lines. Add to these elements a love of pure, bright colour and you have the essence of my work. I believe in the intuitive and I allow my emotions and instincts to guide the process of adding and removing shapes and colours until a composition is finally achieved. I am influenced by the art of Kandinsky and Mondrian and I am about to embark on a series of nudes influenced by Matisse.
