Soraya Cristo was born in Bogotá, Colombia. She received BFA from National University of Colombia in 1989. In 2006 she won from Ministry of Culture of Colombia the Artist in Residence in Banff Centre in Canada and the first position in Love and Ecstasy’s Biennial II, Bogotá, Colombia.
Soraya is a multi disciplinary artist. Her work is called "Estuaries". Estuaries are built with variable size glass cubes filled with colored water and symbolic objects, which “fill” our modern lives, and depict places and situations. They are a rich but distorted and fractured reflection of the industrial over-production of useless and corrosive materialism undeniably destructive of the modern psyche. A chemical interaction among the objects, the water and the color form deposits like the alluvium of natural Estuaries and so develops a suggestion of these.
Her work has been presented at venues nationally and internationally, including Truck Gallery, Calgar, AB, The Other Gallery, Banff Centre, Banff, AB, Museum of Art at National University of Colombia, Bogotá, Museum of Modern Art in Ibagué, Colombia, Artespacio Gallery, Bogotá, Museum of Contemporary Art of Bogotá, CounterFlux Art Centre of Inglewood, Calgary, Canada, Emerio Dario Lunar Gallery, University of Zulia, Maracaibo, Venezuela, The permanent floating matter, homage to Francisco Hung, Armando Reverón Gallery, University Cecilio Acosta, Maracaibo, Venezuela. IV,V and VI International Art Biennale of Suba, Bogotá
