SIMON est un peintre autodidacte qui revendique avec force cette liberté de créer sans entrave, hors des institutions et des cadres classiques. Son travail s’inscrit dans une filière instinctive et expressive, nourrie de filiations assumées avec la lumière de Matisse, la poésie de Cocteau, la force des expressionnistes américains, Jackson Pollock, Kandinsky, l’ingénuité de l’Art Brut d’un Jean Dubuffet et les vibrations matiéristes de Nicolas de Staël.
Chez SIMON, la toile devient un terrain d’affrontement entre couleur, matière et geste. Les formes sont simples, les sujets souvent récurrents, presque obsessionnels (chaises, volets, arbres, silhouettes, barques), mais toujours retravaillés avec une intensité neuve.
Son médium : acrylique et huile sur toile, souvent de grand format. Sa palette : primaire, tranchante, solaire. Son trait : épais, noir, sèchement délimiteur, griffé, bousculé, surchargé. SIMON peint ce qu’il voit et ressent. Il cherche à transmettre une impression forte, brutale, évidente.
