Brief Biographical Description
Sergio Vergara Arteaga, is an Agronomist by profession and a Poet and Painter by vocation. As a poet he has published 5 books of poems and has directed a Poetry Workshop and created an Art Magazine. As a painter, he is the author of the longest Children's Mural in Latin America, sponsored by UNICEF. Most of his pictorial work is dedicated to children and, several murals of his authorship are found in the pediatric areas of all the Hospitals of Santiago de Chile. Art critics have defined his painting style as Childish Surrealism and Positivist Onirism. And at present, Sergio Vergara, has been venturing into Abstractionism with great success.
Training
Sergio Vergara Arteaga in a self-taught painter. When her daughter Catalina was born, she wanted to decorate her room with children's paintings. When he could not find such works in the art market, he chose to paint his daughter a series of 20x25 cm pictures. When he took the paintings to be framed, he was discovered by a gallery owner, who immediately commissioned him 100 small-format paintings.Since then, 14 years ago, (his daughter's current age), Sergio Vergara has not stopped painting.
