Sergio Selari is a contemporary Russian sculptor with Italian roots. During his childhood, he primarily used pencil drawing techniques on the wall by his bed and in the corner where he was told to stay for his "behavioral development." Later, his works expanded to include ballpoint pen drawings in notebooks, textbooks, and on school desks.
When he eventually acquired clean paper, he experimented with various mediums to "spoil" it, driven by the fear and nervous anxiety that a blank sheet evoked in him. After being treated for what was deemed an illness, he began to channel his creativity into paid work, continuing to "spoil" paper for money.
Selari's aversion to new things led him to study the restoration of antique furniture, a field in which he was fortunate to have excellent teachers, allowing him to work in Poznan and Frankfurt (Oder). During a subsequent outbreak of his "illness," he turned to wall decoration, adorning numerous walls in Moscow, Alicante, and Torrevieja.
Currently, Selari builds interior historic ship models from the Columbus era and explores metal sculpture using various techniques, including welding, mesh, and wire. Dolls also hold a special place in his artwork, representing a world where molded creations become animated.
