Sebastien Clermont

My formal education is in filmmaking, but after my studies I became increasingly drawn by visual arts as a means of creative expression, especially drawing and painting. Trips to India and Peru, where I had meaningful personal experiences, led me to explore visual art as a process to represent my unconscious mind. I draw particular inspiration from experiences provoked by psychedelics/plant medicines, and archetypal symbols such as those of the tarot. I currently live in Montreal.

I enjoy making mixed-media works, using paint, ink markers, pencil, pastel and sometimes digital manipulation. Each medium equates to a different state of mind for me, for example, paint is more directly expressive and invites randomness, whereas working with ink markers brings more of a sense of control and precision to a piece. I like to experiment and draw on various surfaces; wood, paper, canvas, etc. I tend to use a lot of colors, and very intricate details, in an attempt to capture the look and feel of psychedelic/visionary experiences.
