The original photograph was damaged by a too long exposure in the sun. The disappearance of the photographic emulsion is revealed through an extreme enlargment of the print and a same resolution allover the image. It also appears that only the indigo colour resisted over those years.

Né en 1982 à Oberhausen, Allemagne, Sebastian Riemer est une figure montante de la troisième génération de l'Ecole de Düsseldorf. Exposé dans plusieurs institutions et biennales en Europe et à l'étranger, il figure dans plusieurs collections publiques : en Allemagne Kunstmuseum, Bonn, Museum Kunstpalast, Düsseldorf, Musée de la Ville de Düsseldorf, Musée Folkswang, Essen, Stadtmuseum Munich mais aussi Musée d'Israel, Jerusalem,
FRAC Normandie Rouen, Musée d'art contemporain Hega de Alvear, Caceres, Espagne,et dans des collections d'entreprise telles que JP Morgan bank, HSBC Allemagne, Philara Collection, Dusseldorf.
Formé à l'Académie des Beaux-Arts de Düsseldorf, où il a notamment étudié avec Thomas Ruff et Christopher Williams, Sebastian Riemer questionne le medium photo : tout autant l'image photographique que sa matérialité. A contre-courant des pratiques contemporaines qui manipulent l'image avec des outils numériques, il concentre son regard et son geste sur un détail ou sur les multiples couches qui composent l'image originale pour mieux la révéler.
Sebastian Riemer travaille ainsi la surface du visible selon un balayage technique rigoureux. Il opère souvent à partir d'une image existante, qu'elle soit photographie trouvée, photographie de presse, diapositive, peinture, affiche...et procéde selon différentes techniques pour révéler la matérialité de l'image et les strates de temps qu'elle recèle.Soucieux d'objectivité, il ne modifie pas l'image et travaille par série.
