“ The demon within technology “
This in an original steel sculpture by Scott Wilkes made by welding thousands of small steel rods together. She stands 49.5 inches tall and weighs 62 pounds. She is mounted on a steel plate which the end of her tail rests on and keeps her standing with grace. She is meant to be kept indoors for the elements could do damage to her. She is sealed so she won’t rust unless damaged. This piece is one of the two completed works in the new series by Scott Wilkes called “ My demons and the worlds “ which is a look at not only my internal demons but also demons created by the world which effect me. This series will have at least 13 pieces which I have already drawn up, started on or completed. This piece is the second of the series both of which I completed the third week of 2018. I have another in the works and the rest are drawn up but may add pieces to the series if I feel the need.

to me the artist: she is a conjuring of a feeling I have about the internet which is not good. She is the counterweight to the first piece in the series called “ the angel of technology “ Let me try and explain this…The internet to me is tool, And like any tool it can be used properly or used improperly with bad intent. To explain this piece I also need to somewhat reference the first so it makes as much sense as possible. The angel is the pure true form of the internet as a tool, the demon is what has come from the use of the tool by humans with bad intent. She is what can be conjured with simple keystrokes or posting a photo.

She is the liar of liars, she takes the truth that can be bought and seals it away while she exudes lies,,she is the hacker of hackers, Stealer of identity, the bullies coward tongue and voice. She is the cyber pickpocket who allows hands thousands of miles away take from you. She is the scourge of silicone valley only hungry for your data. She is sleek and cunning, riding on trojans and handing out poisoned cookies filled with worms. Her horn like an antenna stays connected to those who feed her desire to cheat, steal , lie, and destroy. She keeps us chained to our devices with her shinny trinkets while we choose to let the world pass and stare through her tiny vision of a screen. Her one eye visible is watching and logging and keeping files while her other eye is unseen is probably looking deeper at you, and what you do, and where you go, and what you buy, and where you buy it , and who you talk to..and selling that info she gathers. She is strong and dangerous yet you keep looking at her for she was designed to keep you thinking about other things than the crimes she is committing with your help.
