My work is an exploration of the world as I see it at a walking pace. It is an ongoing collection of observations and extrapolations derived from wanderings on foot. My chosen way of expressing these thoughts is through drawing and painting. My work starts out as an investigation of more traditional drawing and painting techniques, which is gradually buried beneath marks, additional elements and methods that induce vibrations in the visual. This in turn creates a sort of archeology for the viewer to deconstruct and through this process come to feel more informed about the way that the environment and where we dwell is part of our experiences. Additionally my own thoughts can become paintings, where found images and my imagination over a period of time lead to complicated and layered works in themselves, works surreal and strange. Both the observed worlds and imagined hint at the assumption of an insight into the other.

Born in 1985, Simpson is a drawing artist living and working in Portugal. Primarily using pencil on paper, he adopts a surrealist style to express his unique views of the world.

His work is a continuous exploration of the world at a walking pace, a collection of observations and extrapolations derived from his wanderings on foot. Simpson begins his works with an investigation of more traditional drawing and painting techniques, which are then gradually buried under marks, additional elements and methods that induce visual vibrations. This process creates a kind of archeology for the viewer, who must deconstruct the works to better understand how the environment and the place where we live influence our experiences.

Simpson views his thoughts as potential paintings, where found images and his imagination, over time, lead to complex, layered works. These creations, both observed and imagined, are imbued with surrealism and mystery, offering a glimpse of the other. His works are both strange and fascinating, revealing worlds where reality and imagination meet, inviting the viewer to deep reflection on the perception and interpretation of our daily environment.
