Sandrine Blondel is a contemporary French artist known for her unique fascination with mechanics and abandoned industrial landscapes. Her artistic journey is deeply intertwined with her early life experiences and the diverse cultural influences she encountered.
From the age of 10, Sandrine's life was a blend of rigorous academic pursuits in the suburbs of Paris and adventurous three-month trips to Africa each year. Her mother, a guide specializing in desert crossings, drove Land Rovers through the vast African landscapes. These journeys, covering thousands of kilometers, sparked Sandrine's early fascination with machinery and engines.
In 1987, Sandrine graduated from the prestigious ESAG / Met de PENNINGHEN graphic arts school in Paris. She began her professional career in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, working as an Art Director in an advertising agency. After returning to France, she continued her career as a freelance Art Director and painter.
Since 2000, Sandrine has dedicated herself exclusively to painting. She splits her time between her studio in Montreuil, near Paris, and a new studio in Puglia, Italy, embracing her maternal Italian heritage. Her work and dedication have earned her significant recognition in the art world. She was featured in an article and interview in the prestigious Porsche collectors' magazine, CRISTOFORUS, in 2020, and her work was published in the PORSCHE ART BOOK in 2018. Additionally, she exhibited as a guest at the 2016 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in California and is a regular exhibitor at RETROMOBILE in the Galerie des Artistes.
Sandrine's artistic technique evolved over the years, beginning 20 years ago when she started working on raw linen canvas. She developed a three-color interpretation inspired by the work of Bernd and Hilla Becher. This approach eventually led her to create on large aluminum sheets, a medium that perfectly complements her mechanical themes. Painting on metal requires a specific technique that Sandrine has perfected, allowing her to convey energy and vibration through her brushstrokes. Her work tends towards the "instinctive" while remaining figurative, achieving a harmony between the metal support and the mechanical subjects she portrays.
Her Italian roots also deeply influence Sandrine's work. Inspired by her mother's and grandparents' heritage, she established a second studio in the Salento region of Puglia. Here, she finds inspiration in the "Tangerine" atmosphere, Baroque light, and architecture, enriching her creative expression.
