Artist Statement
The concept for my work is to capture an emotional thought using pure beauty. It is not about good proportions of the Ancient Greek sculptures, it is not the playful, sensuous beauty of Rococo, it is not the sublime experience of Romanticism, it is the beauty of human emotions. The goal is to depict a state of mind that I have while painting, making a work that appeals to both vision and intellect. To me, the narrative comes after and is of a lesser importance than the lyrical content. I like to discover my composition, but keep its development under control by editing the abstract or figurative elements that can complicate or create discrepancy. Altogether, my work employs conscious and subconscious thinking in the search for that state of completion.
Starting from an inspiring line or color, I let my imagination produce something original. Once the composition gets clarity, I work on the details and accents that will amplify the atmosphere and offer more interpretations. In my concept, beauty has also a mysterious quality, imperfections and even disorder.
Instead of being more practical, in a dreamlike atmosphere, I employ emotional skills to produce unique artworks out of the deep sense of spiritual need. The ultimate goal is to create an illusory place where one can retreat and escape the daily turmoil.
