The really delightful fur creatures we meet while out photographing Australian birds will fall into the Wildlife Gallery of my artwork practise, having said that it is sad that many wildlife animals now have found safe homes in zoos and nature reserves as their numbers are declining in the wild- Red Panda is no exception. Red Panda was painted after photographing this zoo baby at the local zoo but I study my subject matter on more than one location and time before I choose to paint them as it is the finer detail that you remember when you see them that I try to capture as well, these Red Pandas were seen in NSW and ACT zoos before painting. This red Panda is one of my favourite images and I was not going to limit my painting to Australian birds when these gorgeous creatures are here to see and photograph too. If you lucky to get to see these delightful "fur balls" you will find them high up in the trees for several visits and then the day will arrive that they descend the branches to study you better too and that's when photography becomes a great tool as you can then capture those quick backward glances that would be so hard to sketch in a few seconds or draw from memory. Capturing the light in this fur and all the red colours was also my goal, for a good piece of photo-realism artwork starts with knowledge of the subject matter and a quality reference image.Travel to Red panda wild locations would be even more amazing for the artist as more of the environment could be studied and added in detail too but this would significantly increase the cost of production, so I hope you all enjoy this little one.The technical process of creating this artwork is shown in the video titled Red Panda on Susan Willemse YouTube channel and pricing is standardised as with all my artwork, pricing includes a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the artist. Please allow 1 week for framing if required and included in the price quoted. Other things to consider when buying art is packing, shipping and Warranty. Our customised gallery wrap framing makes the artwork a little more heavy but means that a gust of wind that blows through the room it hangs in will not affect it, the solid back is added protection as well as the frame.

Susan was born in Rhodesia, educated in South Africa at Groote Schuur Hospital where she worked for 20 years and now lives in Australia. Having rewritten her medical exams with Distinction in 2011 in Australia she was saddened when the cervical cancer Pap screening was deemed not cost effective in 2017 in Australia and palliative hospitals were built instead. It was then that she followed her second dream which had started in High School with the final art prize in 1985 and started her own art practice in Canberra. Susan is absolutely loving the art world now for she has discovered Art is the universal language that heals and connects people in this world. Susan still believes that prevention of cancer and early diagnosis is a worthwhile cause and is glad she was able to help others and glad that the Australian radiologists were spared the cost cuts of 2017 so they were able to help her live as well but she now welcomes you to share her journey forward in the Arts.
