Jovhanna Rutvanowska is a distinguished contemporary French artist known for her unique blend of figurative abstraction and her deep exploration of the spiritual and universal. Her career gained international recognition when she represented France at the 1998 Lisbon Universal Exhibition, a milestone followed by her commission to create 16 large stained glass windows, as well as frescoes, for the Saint Bernard Church in Lattes, near Montpellier. These works are marked by an “unconsciously figurative abstraction,” which fuses elements of engraving, drawing, and sculpture into a style that defies traditional boundaries between abstraction and figuration.
Rutvanowska’s art invites viewers into a mythological realm, portraying life’s invisible movements and the ephemeral traces of our journey towards infinity. Her work has been exhibited widely, with notable shows including “Views of the Mind – Views of the Sky” in Montreal, “From Mao to Tien’anmen” in Zurich, and “Lost Civilizations” in Brussels. Her pieces have also been displayed at prestigious venues such as the Art Fair Europ’Art in Geneva and Biennale of Montreux in Switzerland.
Beyond painting, Rutvanowska has expanded her creative practice to monumental sculpture, currently working from her studio in Laverune, France. Her creations are housed in both public and private collections worldwide, including the Vatican Museum in Rome, St. Bernard Church in Lattes, and major art institutions such as the Pau Museum of Fine Arts in France, the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Krakow, and the WWF Contemporary Art Collection in Zurich.
