Les tableaux de Robert Comméat créent chez l'observateur des sensations par le jeu des couleurs et des formes. L'observateur est en phase - ou pas - avec ces formes et ces couleurs… qui suggèrent une idée de paysage, sans la perturber par des détails, et restant dans le domaine de l'émotion.
L'artiste part d'une couleur dominante sur laquelle il exprime ses sensations,impressions, humeurs, créant des tableaux que l'on peut par la suite classer en période bleue, période ocre, ou période verte.
