This is a detail of the Jefferson Memorial on "The Cherry Blossom Festival" painting. Please see the image of the full painting on the opening page to my website, with me standing next to it. It is a 6'- 9" x 10'-0" mural panorama of the cherry trees on The Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C., having 3,000 highly detailed flowers and taking 6,000 hours to paint over 12 years, starting in 1978. It was painted largely on location.
Please also see the larger image of the detail of the flowers in the Giclee Print gallery.

When I first started painting in 1976 I painted small, 6" size, paintings of flowers. Then I painted small landscapes, and then larger landscapes.

I realized that when a painting gets over 5 feet, people relate to the painting differently. The painting becomes more of an environment where the people can become part of the painting instead of just looking at a picture. So I wondered what a large painting full of flowers would be like.

I lived in northern Virginia as a child and teenager. Every year my family would go to see the cherry blossoms in the spring, so I decided that would be the perfect painting to paint full of flowers.

I painted the painting largely on location for 6 springs in a row, taking 6,000 hours over 12 years to paint.

I consider that the value of a painting is first that it is aesthetically pleasing to a person, and then also how it fits into the Collection of all the artworks by the artist. I would like to invite you to purchase my book,"Beautious Contemplations", which shows all my paintings and drawings until 2010, 148 images, when I published my book. It is the true story of how I overcame the debilitating pain of Migrane Headaches through meditation. It also contains a section on my Architecture, and "The Precis", a series of considerations and meditations on a variety of subjects, such as "The Stories of Light". It can be purchased here. Please see the Gallery "Beauteous Considerations". The price is $25.00.

WELCOME TO MY ART WEBSITE

I consider my paintings as a Collection, and have intended that they should be exhibited together, since I began painting 45 years ago. They were not painted to sell individually. The product of my work is the environment they create when exhibited as a whole. Therefore, I am planning a 45-Year Retrospective Show for next year, containing 155 Paintings and Drawings. The show is entitled, " Beauteous Contemplations - An Invitation to Journey". I hope you will be able to visit.

I INVITE YOU TO CONSIDER

"Beauteous Contemplations"

By Robert Bursik
Architect and Painter

I started my Painting Collection in 1976, and it currently has 155 Paintings and Drawings, in 8 specific Series.

My goal as an artist has been to learn, internalize, and become sensitive to the subjects and techniques in all aspects of painting.

Over the years that I have been painting, I have been interested in a number of genra, including Landscapes and Flowers, Classical Copies of Raphael, Titan, and others, Portraits and Life Studies, and my Opal Series, which are expressions of my Dreams and Meditations.

I have used a number of techniques, including oil, watercolor, pen & ink and charcoal.

In addition to the primary concept of Art, to inspire a sense of Beauty in the observer, my Collection also intends to explore the most profound activities of the Human Being : Beauty, Empathy, The Value and Capacity of the Human Mind, Perception, Physics, Fear and Anger, and other subtile facets of the Human Being. It is my hope that an observer of my Work will be lost to himself for a while, lost in Beauty, and Serenity, lost in the detail, lost in the subject, and in the moment.

Therefore, I believe that you will find the diversity, composition, and Concept of this Collection, to be interesting and unusual.

Included on my Art Website are photos of my 8 Painting Series, and "The Concept of the Collection".

Please view several Pages to ascertain the Scope of my Collection.

In my "Mural Landscape Series" is "The Cherry Blossom Festival",
a 10' x 7' highly detailed mural painting of the Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C.,
taking 6,000 hours to paint over a 12 year period, and containing over 3,000 detailed flowers.

There are 6 paintings in my Mural Landscape Series, from 5' to 10'.

It is my experience that when a Painting gets over 5', the viewer relates to it differently: it becomes more like an environment in which the viewer is immersed in the painting, part of the painting, rather that looking at it as a picture. However, as the size, and detail, of the painting increase, so too does the degree of difficulty go up geometrically, until eventually, even though the artist my have the vision and ability to paint the picture, the logisitcs make it nearly impossible.

Other Series include : "Cla...
