'The people who are having feelings and thoughts'
Shows the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behavior in actual life situations.
A lotus is a survivor, it pushes its way through muddy waters and finds the sunlight. As the bud hits the surface of the water and drinks in the sunlight, a single petal opens, signifying an achievement. Oftentimes in our busy lives, we overlook the smallest achievements.
Pradeep Jayatunga is a Sri Lankan artist with over 40 years of experience in painting. Known for his self-taught mastery, Jayatunga’s work is characterized by a distinctive style that merges elements of African wood carvings, European fauvism, and American expressionism. His innovative approach to painting has earned him significant accolades, including the 3rd Prize at the Young Contemporaries Exhibition (1991), the Merit Award at the same exhibition (1997), and recognition at international artist camps in Sri Lanka and beyond. His recent series, “The Story Behind the Lotus Bud,” delves into Sri Lanka’s socio-political landscape, using bold and subdued tones to reflect the resilience and struggles of ordinary people. Jayatunga’s art combines a sculptural quality with expressive forms, creating a visual language that transcends cultural boundaries. As he continues to develop his craft, Jayatunga seeks to engage with global audiences and contribute to a richer dialogue in contemporary art. His paintings are a testament to the power of visual storytelling and the enduring impact of artistic expression.
