Piet Prins heeft tot 1982 de Nieuwe Academie te Utrecht gevolgd. Hij is een createur van beelden met een voorliefde voor fotografie. De ontwikkeling van de fotografie heeft hij op de voet gevolgd en door middel van gebruik van moderne technieken.
Het vasthouden van het vergankelijke is voor Piet Prins het middel van zijn expressie. Daarbij is hij 15 jaar geleden met het fotograferen van etalagepoppen gestart. Deze etalagepoppen zijn langzaam uit het straatbeeld verdwenen en degene die er nu nog wel zijn hebben een genderneutrale uitstraling. Dat wil zeggen dat er geen gelaatstuitdrukkingen meer op deze poppen aanwezig zijn. Piet Prins probeert op kunstzinnige manier dit weer tot leven te wekken.
Het digitale tijdperk heeft de fotografie revolutionair veranderd, ondanks er nog steeds een groeiende gemeenschap van analogische fotografie is. Piet Prins gebruikt digitale technieken om kunstwerken te maken zodat zij uniek en soms expressief worden. Piet Prins kan met deze techniek foto’s manipuleren door hen tot surrealistische composities te transformeren.
